Budget - What Budget?

No money - that is how I feel right now. I planned a wedding budget and then I spent well beyond that budget before paying off the essentials for the wedding. Aw shucks! What did I go and do that for? Now what! Okay, so I have a plan to get the money back (legally) so that part is okay, but the lesson I learned is priceless.

1) Never spend more than you have. Even if it is on a credit card, STOP! This will come come back to haunt you.

2) Don't try to impress family. Just because you have friends or family coming over does not mean you have to spend lots of money. Hopefully they love you for you.


3) Budget all of life. If your life were on a strict budget, keeping the special occasion budget solid would be less of a problem. You have to think hard about that money and saving some for that rainy day!!!

These tips are just the start as I am still 20 days out and have not paid all the bills. Let's hope we can do what we need to do to keep the wedding moving!!!

Wedding Finances - What Happens When the Money is Gone?

You have planned your wedding and thought the budget was going according to plan - but then there is an unexpected hitch and you need more money! What can you do?

Cut the reception. The reception costs more than the wedding. Instead of having plated meals, ask about the buffet option. If money is really tight, ask about snacks.

Take the alcohol away. If you have an open bar or a sponsored bar - make the guests pay for the alcohol. This will save a TON of money.

Go to a local alterations business. The alterations completed by the wedding dress store will cost nearly as much as the dress. Instead, find a local seamstress to complete the work.


Nix the honeymoon. Lots of couples get married and never leave the house. This could be a good thing. Get rid of the plane tickets and order pizza in bed! YEAH!
